“Does Start Me Up Niagara accept clothes?”
This is one of the most common emails we get at SMUN. While we love the community’s support and consideration, honestly, we actually can’t accept many of the items people want to donate. Because of a space limitation, and now, because of COVID, there are things we cannot take.
Clothing, belts, socks, and shoes are always essential items for those experiencing homelessness and are always in short supply. Unfortunately, we cannot store these items people are wanting to donate. Instead, we ask that people looking to donate new or gently used items stop by St. Vincent de Paul in St. Catharines.
Whenever one of our participants is in need, we make sure that they have access to the clothing or supplies they require.
For those capable of making a donation, some of the items we are seeking include:
- garbage bags,
- cleaning supplies,
- ground coffee, coffee cups, powder creamer and sugar,
- new winter hats, gloves, and scarves,
- and, of course, financial donations, if possible.
