Position Summary:

Start me Up Niagara’s resource Drop-In Resource Centre provides participants opportunity to achieve their creative past and present through exploration of multi-disciplinary arts, in a safe studio environment. The Arts and recreation Leader will work to develop an arts, recreation and leisure activities program to help our participants living with disabilities, compromised mental health, poverty and homelessness.

Drop-In Resource Centre - Triage Worker (pending funding)
TYPE OF POSITION: Canada Summer Jobs (16 weeks)

Position Summary:

The position offers the chance for students to directly apply their skills and make a difference improving day to day life stabilization to people living in poverty. Students will participate in the Drop-in Centre’s day to day activities and interaction with participants. Using knowledge in poverty reduction, community integration, they will work with a team of employees, participants and volunteers to triage participants in need of immediate supports and community integration. In addition, they will help in creating daily meaningful activities for people seeking a sense of community and on the sport solutions to life stabilization. Education in social services, people living with compromised mental health and addictions is required.

Food and Kitchen Support Worker (pending funding)
TYPE OF POSITION: Canada Summer Jobs (16 weeks)

Position Summary:

The position offers the chance for students to directly apply their skills and make a difference improving nutritious food routine and security to people living in poverty. Students will participate in the Food and Kitchen program at the Drop-in Resource Centre’s day to day tasks and interaction with participants. Using knowledge in poverty reduction, food insecurity, nutrition on a low income, community integration, they will work with a team of employees, participants and volunteers to support participants in need of nutrition awareness and food security. In addition, they will help in creating weekly nutritious meals for people seeking food security. Education in social services, people living with compromised mental health and addictions including food sources and nutritious value is required.

Garden Assistant (pending funding)
TYPE OF POSITION: Canada Summer Jobs (16 weeks)

Position Summary:

The position offers the chance for students to directly apply their skills and make a difference improving food security to people living in poverty. Students will participate in the food production-distribution-consumption chain. Using knowledge in horticulture or agriculture, they will work with a team of employees, participants and volunteers to plan, plant, cultivate, and harvest produce from Start Me Up Niagara's mini-farm plot. In addition, they will help process and distribute produce to the center's kitchen/feeding programs or to people living in poverty seeking affordable fresh fruits and vegetables. Education in horticulture, farming/community garden procedures, and/or food security is required.

Position Summary:

Start Me Up Niagara is a Not-For-Profit Organization that provides services to vulnerable and marginalized populations in St. Catharines. The Marketing Specialist role will assist in maintaining the organizational social media presence in support of fundraising and volunteer program efforts. We consider social media a valuable means to communicating with the community to be able to continue providing services that have positive mental and health impacts.

TYPE OF POSITION: Canada Summer Jobs (16 weeks)

Position Summary:

The position offers the chance for students to directly apply their skills and make a difference improving day to day life stabilisation to people living in poverty and struggling with life challenges. Students will participate in the agency’s day to day activities and interaction with participants through volunteer engagement and recruitment. Using knowledge in poverty reduction, community integration, they will work with a team of employees, participants and volunteers to recruit, support and retain volunteers through revamped processes to provide a continuum for agency supports. In addition, they will help in creating daily meaningful activities for volunteers to deliver to those seeking a sense of community and life stabilisation. Education in social services, people living with compromised mental health and addictions is required.
